I have a confession to make.
Speaker:There are parts of my business that are a complete mess.
Speaker:When I started this business almost seven years ago, I thought the company
Speaker:was gonna be one thing, a business development consulting practice, but then
Speaker:it quickly evolved into something else.
Speaker:I started speaking, I wrote a book.
Speaker:I launched this podcast, and the company and my brand grew faster
Speaker:than I could have imagined.
Speaker:However, my systems and my processes certainly didn't keep.
Speaker:Welcome to episode one 17 of This Shit Works, a podcast dedicated to
Speaker:all things networking, relationship building, and business development.
Speaker:I'm your host, Julie Brown in today I'm talking with Beta Ette, a growth architect
Speaker:who provides visionaries and leaders with proven strategies, blueprints and
Speaker:growth maps that provide clear steps to improve business systems and strengthen
Speaker:leadership skills so that we can maximize profits and scale our impact.
Speaker:I'm gonna.
Speaker:All of that.
Speaker:Welcome to this Shit Works, Your Weekly No Nonsense Guide to Networking Your Way
Speaker:to More friends, more adventures, and way more success with your host, Julie Brown.
Speaker:Here we go.
Speaker:My guest today has a list of accolades, far too many to
Speaker:mention, but I will mention a.
Speaker:A first generation immigrant who found herself $135,000
Speaker:in debt as a single parent.
Speaker:Beata bootstrapped her passion for photography into highly
Speaker:successful global business.
Speaker:In eventually sold that business to Bill Gates and a multimillion dollar deal.
Speaker:She is among the top 100 global thought leaders by people home, and one of 50 must
Speaker:follow women entrepreneurs by HuffPost.
Speaker:That's all well and good, but the real reason I want to talk to Biatta
Speaker:is because she is passionate about building structures for overwhelmed and
Speaker:frustrated business owners who can't squeeze more time out of their busy day.
Speaker:How many of you are nodding your head and saying yes, because I
Speaker:certainly am so though further ado, let's get this conversation started.
Speaker:Beata, welcome to the podcast.
Speaker:I am so excited to be here.
Speaker:Let's make shit work.
Speaker:, . I think everybody loves the title of this podcast cuz so many people
Speaker:are like, I'm ready for this shit.
Speaker:Let's do this shit.
Speaker:Yeah, no, I mean, a hundred percent.
Speaker:You know?
Speaker:And as we are going in this interview, inevitably shit was not working.
Speaker:And so as we hear now we are like, Okay, now let's make it work.
Speaker:Let's, let's, uh, talk to our audience and get, get them some.
Speaker:So you have a lot of offerings.
Speaker:I've done the research on you.
Speaker:You have a lot of offerings, you have a lot of different areas of expertise.
Speaker:But I think a good question to kick us off is what does a growth architect do?
Speaker:I think that is, The question of a business owner actually needs to answer
Speaker:relatively quickly and easy alert, right?
Speaker:So we really focus on helping to grow authority and scale impact for
Speaker:a lot of mission driven entrepreneurs and business owners and founders.
Speaker:And there's three particular things that we get are very involved in.
Speaker:Number one.
Speaker:We have a system for building systems and it's called the system formula meal Bill.
Speaker:I, I think that that in in itself is kind of like the joke, right?
Speaker:So only I could have a system to build a system, and.
Speaker:This is for business owners who have a number of different things, especially
Speaker:in the service industry, and then their coaching, and they have an online
Speaker:course, and then they have this, and they have that program and that program.
Speaker:And oftentimes it feels that they're completely disjointed.
Speaker:So what we do is we put an umbrella over the whole thing, build the system
Speaker:and put all the pieces in a system, and then the system becomes the hero.
Speaker:And then, uh, the diagnostic tool for the business owner.
Speaker:Tell their clients what the method is that they're using and where on the system they
Speaker:fall and which service is right for them.
Speaker:So it's a really cohesive offer.
Speaker:I mean, it's a game changer.
Speaker:People walk out five days later closing 50,000, a hundred thousand
Speaker:dollars deals because you finally know what you're talking about.
Speaker:The second piece is where we actually do.
Speaker:A very specific growth plan where we help people to develop the
Speaker:strategy and our approach to this.
Speaker:Very simple.
Speaker:So there are.
Speaker:Hundreds of strategies on running a business.
Speaker:I mean, I bet Julie, you yourself have, you know, talked to internet marketers
Speaker:and that sales strategy and that sales strategy and that sale and that LinkedIn
Speaker:and that Instagram and that, and it's enough to make your head explode.
Speaker:So we go in and we say, Well, who are you?
Speaker:What are you goals?
Speaker:What do you want to achieve?
Speaker:Where are you good at?
Speaker:What resonates with you?
Speaker:And then we help you to identify the strategies that work only for you
Speaker:in that style that works for you.
Speaker:We don't believe one size fits all.
Speaker:It never does.
Speaker:And the final piece is we are launching a mastermind for podcasters.
Speaker:And this mastermind for podcasters is, uh, how to increase your reach.
Speaker:So we've taken three strategies that we are putting in this mastermind.
Speaker:One is a Linked in monetization strategy.
Speaker:The other one.
Speaker:Instagram strategy and then I build all the workflows and
Speaker:strategies, how to maximize content.
Speaker:So how do you turn one podcast in 15 to 25 pieces of content per week?
Speaker:So we designed all of that.
Speaker:So that's kicking off very shortly.
Speaker:I've never thought about monetizing linked in LinkedIn, cause I always
Speaker:think of LinkedIn as like the visual representation of my network.
Speaker:In the online space, and do I get gigs out of it in the sense of
Speaker:somebody posts something about me keynoting and then somebody says,
Speaker:Hey, could we have you as our keynote?
Speaker:Is that what you mean by monetizing it?
Speaker:Or is it like there a deeper strategy for monetizing LinkedIn?
Speaker:There is a deeper strategy for monetizing LinkedIn.
Speaker:So we have this method on why would you try to find a seat at
Speaker:the SA table if you can own the.
Speaker:And you invite people to your table.
Speaker:So we have a method on how do we identify the people that are your potential
Speaker:clients, and then you are setting them up on peer to peer round tables.
Speaker:You facilitate a conversation and we'll tell you exactly what the elements are
Speaker:and how it needs to be structured so that at the end of it, they want more because
Speaker:you just dazzle them with your brilliance.
Speaker:And in this method, you.
Speaker:Potential clients, and then you can take them into your strategic consulting phase.
Speaker:So they're pre-vetted, they already like you because they spend time with you,
Speaker:and we help you to really go in and say, Well, how do we scale your impact even
Speaker:further using this particular strategy?
Speaker:Because if.
Speaker:, you're professional in business, you have to be in LinkedIn.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:It's like the next big thing, right?
Speaker:Because the, the platform is still evolving and I think some people think
Speaker:about LinkedIn as like the older platform without all of the algorithms that we have
Speaker:to like push you and like grow your brand.
Speaker:It's totally changing, isn't it?
Speaker:Well, LinkedIn was acquired by Microsoft and so obviously it has been.
Speaker:Corporatized.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:in that sense, Microsoft bought it to make money.
Speaker:So Microsoft is positioning this as the new recruiting tool on how to find ideal
Speaker:candidates, and then how to make this now the placement tool or the research
Speaker:tool for recruiters, because that's where the big money is going to be.
Speaker:Obviously advertising and ads and all that.
Speaker:Because right now we only have.
Speaker:Google and we only have Facebook, but now, and YouTube ads obviously,
Speaker:but LinkedIn is going to be the big advertising platform that's coming next.
Speaker:That's where they're, that's where they're gonna be making the money.
Speaker:Okay.
Speaker:So if we step back to the conversation around systems for
Speaker:just a minute, I mentioned in the intro, My strategy is in my systems.
Speaker:They just don't support the company that I own now because the company
Speaker:that I own now, I didn't know this was what this company was gonna look like.
Speaker:Is this a common thing that happens with companies like not having the
Speaker:systems in place or the company grows too fast and you don't have the systems
Speaker:to support how fast your company grows?
Speaker:Is this a two questions?
Speaker:Is this a common occurrence and can it be fixed ? Oh, a hundred percent.
Speaker:So what?
Speaker:What typically happens is, You when you grow your business or
Speaker:when you first go, go to market.
Speaker:And then people react well to this one thing you said.
Speaker:And that becomes a product and a service.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:Then you speak about something else and everybody comes to you
Speaker:and says that Julie was the most amazing thing I've ever heard.
Speaker:Smartest.
Speaker:You are.
Speaker:You of course, immediately build a product around it or an offer
Speaker:or a coaching or consulting item.
Speaker:Somebody else comes and hears something you said, So next thing you know, you have
Speaker:like 4, 5, 6 things and you go, Man, how.
Speaker:Well woman, how do I, how do I build this?
Speaker:How do I build this like super really quickly?
Speaker:And so what you do is you go in and you say that, Okay,
Speaker:let's just take a step back.
Speaker:What do I need to do to reach my financial goal, my life goal,
Speaker:my a work life balance goal?
Speaker:And how do I go about this in the sense that I can now really grow this business?
Speaker:Then you look at what are the systems you already have.
Speaker:So I designed the five star Success Blueprint.
Speaker:So this is our diagnostic tool.
Speaker:So when you come to me, okay, so we can do this now in real time.
Speaker:So we, we, we just make this a mini, mini mastermind here.
Speaker:So the first thing we look at, we say, is the idea clear?
Speaker:What is the.
Speaker:Are we clear who our avatar is?
Speaker:Who are we going after?
Speaker:How do we articulate what we're saying is our differentiation factor?
Speaker:Clear is unique value proposition.
Speaker:I call it the unapologetic value proposition.
Speaker:Is that clear?
Speaker:When we have that, then we go to the offer and we look at the offer and said,
Speaker:Does this offer solve a problem for these people that we just identified?
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:, And those are the people that our ideal.
Speaker:And then, and only then will we identify the offer that this particular group
Speaker:needs, because we want to have multiple offers that that group could need.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So first maybe they need the, you know, the, the online course and maybe they
Speaker:need individual executive coaching, and then maybe they need team building,
Speaker:and then maybe they need a strategy.
Speaker:So whatever the things are, so you can, you can guide them then
Speaker:through the different pieces of the offer that you have.
Speaker:Then we move into the third piece, and that third piece is the systems.
Speaker:Now we say, now we know who we are selling to.
Speaker:Now we know what we are selling, so what are the systems we need to build now that.
Speaker:These things because that's the automation that's, you know,
Speaker:everything that's available.
Speaker:What do we need to make this happen?
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:When we have that, then we go to the team and then we say,
Speaker:we know what the offer is.
Speaker:We know who is selling to, we know what the systems are.
Speaker:Now we know who the people are that need to handle the systems that can service the
Speaker:offer that solve a problem for the client.
Speaker:And then finally, we go in the.
Speaker:Star of the five star success blueprint.
Speaker:That's you as a leader.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. Now we are looking at you as a leader and saying, What should you be doing?
Speaker:What should you hire somebody to do?
Speaker:What should you not waste your time anymore?
Speaker:Where are we now needing to find the right team members?
Speaker:How can you lead the right team members that work in the systems that manage your.
Speaker:Offer that solve the problems for the client.
Speaker:And so when I take you through this, it becomes very clear.
Speaker:So intuitively I would say, you know, speaking to you, you probably
Speaker:somewhere between the systems and the team where you now need to figure
Speaker:out where do I need to hire somebody and where do I have a system Yeah.
Speaker:That I can automate to run certain things.
Speaker:Yep.
Speaker:Once you got that figured, You are ready for that next step because now you can
Speaker:scale it up, but you can't scale it.
Speaker:If these, the unification part, you know, the leader, the team, and
Speaker:the systems, if that's not properly aligned, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.
Speaker:Okay?
Speaker:Inside your systems is there the possibility of passive
Speaker:income, if that's what you want.
Speaker:A hundred percent.
Speaker:Because we are now looking at this and we saying, Where are you going
Speaker:to make the money the fastest?
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:, where are you going to?
Speaker:Be able to create products and services that do not require
Speaker:you to be there all the time.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:So is it an online course?
Speaker:We now know that online courses after the pandemic don't sell as well
Speaker:because people want an experience.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So now we need to go and say, well, which part of it is an experience?
Speaker:Which part of it is something that we can build for you to go and grow very quickly.
Speaker:Which part of it?
Speaker:Maybe there's a partnership, maybe there's a mastermind, maybe there's a
Speaker:high ticket item that you need to create.
Speaker:So where are we gonna get the leads in?
Speaker:And then what do the people that we identify in the avatar really need?
Speaker:And then we slice and dice that into different offers and products
Speaker:and services and coaching, consulting, speaking, however it is.
Speaker:So we have a real plan.
Speaker:So for you, because you speak so much, so we then need to look at.
Speaker:When you speak, how do we make that a lead generation tool?
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:And how do the different audiences that are attracted by your
Speaker:your talk, what do they need?
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. And then what would be the funnel we need to let them in?
Speaker:So let's say what happens, A lot of times the people in an audience
Speaker:are not necessarily buyers.
Speaker:They are fans and ambassadors for you, but they're not the
Speaker:ones who make the money decision.
Speaker:Their bosses are.
Speaker:So then we go and say, What do we need to give them?
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So that they then walk with a piece of paper, that handout that
Speaker:you have into their boss's office and say, Oh my God, I just heard
Speaker:this amazing woman, Julie Brown.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:, what she said resonated.
Speaker:Here are the three reasons we need to bring our into our company.
Speaker:And those are the things that you gave them Yeah.
Speaker:To take to their boss because we designed it in such a way
Speaker:that they become an ambassador that then does the sale for you.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So it's almost like a referral sale.
Speaker:Yep.
Speaker:So we design all of these pieces in that strategy so that you
Speaker:always know when you go somewhere.
Speaker:What is the strategy for you to take your speaking right into more engage.
Speaker:So I , I think in order, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in order for us
Speaker:to set up these steps and to have these, for me to stand on a stage and to have
Speaker:follow up offers with people, I need to have some form of authority and expertise.
Speaker:And we talk about that a lot on this podcast.
Speaker:How to network and speak and create yourself as an authority
Speaker:in whatever industry you're in.
Speaker:But you also talk about this and you have three essential framework elements for,
Speaker:so somebody can grow their authority.
Speaker:Can we talk about those a little bit?
Speaker:Because for some people, the authority might have to happen first before they
Speaker:even think about what are my offerings?
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:I think that the first thing that everybody just needs to
Speaker:understand about authority.
Speaker:You are an authority because you say you are an authority.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:So there's nobody on this entire planet that's gonna come to me or you,
Speaker:Julie, and says, You are the authority.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:You say you are the authority because you have a system, you have a plan,
Speaker:you have clients, and you get results.
Speaker:That is what gives you the authority.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So if you are still waiting, and I'm gonna be really blunt here for
Speaker:mommy or daddy to tell you that you're a good girl or well behaved.
Speaker:And you got your act together.
Speaker:That is never going to happen.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So there is a part in, in the Success blueprint, we talk about you, number
Speaker:one, you really need to have the mindset, so that always comes first.
Speaker:You need to know that what you want is within your reach available to
Speaker:you, and that you're ready to step into it and you're ready to claim
Speaker:that success because, Your mom's job is to protect you from getting
Speaker:hurt and not have any boo boos.
Speaker:So your mom is gonna tell you not to take any risks because,
Speaker:I mean, while she cheers you on, but then she says, Be careful.
Speaker:It's a wild west out there, and then you start to be very hesitant
Speaker:about making the decisions.
Speaker:But if you have a mindset and you say, I.
Speaker:Claiming my success.
Speaker:I'm going for my success.
Speaker:I own my success.
Speaker:I have a right to be here.
Speaker:I have a right to sit at the table and lead the table.
Speaker:This is an energetic resonance that then other people go like, you
Speaker:know, Yeah, that woman, that man knows what they're talking about.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So that's how it starts.
Speaker:The second piece is you're gonna have to have shocker a strategy for, uh, you
Speaker:know, for anything really we recommend because there's so many strategies.
Speaker:And, you know, I have my, my own podcast called the Business Growth
Speaker:Architecture, and it's all about.
Speaker:And I wanted to bring as many people as possible that have different
Speaker:strategies on my podcast to help the listener understand just how many
Speaker:different strategies there are, because you don't have to follow a strategy.
Speaker:Terrorizes you and gives you nightmares.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:, you can't find a strategy that is aligned with who you naturally are.
Speaker:Like speaking is a strategy.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:So if you like speaking, that is a great strategy.
Speaker:If you break out in hives and start profusely sweating when you're in
Speaker:front of an audience, you, not a good strategy, may not be, may
Speaker:not be a good strategy for you.
Speaker:We may then go the route of the podcast guesting, you know, as a, as a strategy.
Speaker:That might be a little bit more.
Speaker:More along the lines for you.
Speaker:And then finally, you have to be growth oriented, because everything in business
Speaker:needs to be about growth, money making activities, not doing your social media.
Speaker:Who do I need to call today?
Speaker:Face the hair bees, you know, have the sales conversation.
Speaker:Focus on, again, you know, the strategy to really help your business grow.
Speaker:I recently did a podcast interview on growth mindset versus.
Speaker:Fixed mindset, and it sounds a little bit like your strategy follows in with that.
Speaker:Like we have to think it to believe it.
Speaker:You really do.
Speaker:I think that one of the most important things any business
Speaker:owner can do is to look at their.
Speaker:You know, I had an interview yesterday with a gentleman
Speaker:who calls it an upper limit.
Speaker:Uh, he says there's a limit of a financial set point, an upper limit
Speaker:that a lot of people, you know, they get to a certain amount per month,
Speaker:but they can't break it through.
Speaker:So, Maybe they make 50,000 a month or 10,000 a month, but they can't
Speaker:get through the a hundred thousand.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. And so there are limits that we have that are inherent, you know, that are based
Speaker:back a lot on our childhood programming.
Speaker:And we are not responsible for what our parents, you know,
Speaker:programmed us with mm-hmm.
Speaker:But by age seven, all these programs are running.
Speaker:So your parents' fears are now your fears, your parents' money
Speaker:believes are now your money beliefs.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:Yep.
Speaker:And in order for you to change, You have to get conscious and aware
Speaker:that that is happening and then go in and say, Now if it is true that.
Speaker:I am afraid of failing.
Speaker:If it is true that I feel like I'm an imposter, is it true
Speaker:that I am too expensive or that, you know, I should help people?
Speaker:And, uh, it's bad to ask people for money if I help them, which
Speaker:is, you know, a really idiotic belief if you think about it.
Speaker:Because if you wanna mercy dispense, you go in the dealership, right?
Speaker:They're not giving you that car.
Speaker:They charge for it.
Speaker:So, I mean, the.
Speaker:Exchange of money for a service or product is the oldest thing in the world, right?
Speaker:So why do we still have a problem with it?
Speaker:So you break that pattern by the recognition of that pattern.
Speaker:So I recommend everybody to do, uh, listen to a mindset podcast every single
Speaker:day, just to reprogram those neurons.
Speaker:Right.
Speaker:I love what you said about, you don't expect to go to a Mercedes
Speaker:Benz dealer and have them give it to them, because I think a lot of.
Speaker:Who are entrepreneurs who are so openers, like for me, I get asked
Speaker:a lot, If I will speak for free, will you come and do this for free?
Speaker:And I'm very good now at having standard language about why I don't
Speaker:do that or why I only do a certain numbers for certain groups every year.
Speaker:How can somebody create that language for themselves so they aren't
Speaker:constantly being taken advantage?
Speaker:Well, I think again, you have to go and look at why are you
Speaker:feeling compelled to work for free.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:or not asking for money to be compensated.
Speaker:And that oftentimes goes back to stupid stuff we heard.
Speaker:You don't know what you're doing, especially people that are, uh, Christian
Speaker:or religious where you're supposed to help the poor people and you just
Speaker:keep falling into these traps of.
Speaker:You feel good when you help other people?
Speaker:Well, you're not really helping anybody if you can help yourself.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So the growing up into adulthood as an entrepreneur really includes, first and
Speaker:foremost your comfort to talk about money.
Speaker:And I've heard great things that some sales trainers do.
Speaker:They go and say, Here's the water.
Speaker:Here's a cup of coffee that's $25,000.
Speaker:So that you have that same natural tone when you are asking for money.
Speaker:So it's not like, here's the salt, here's the coffee.
Speaker:Well typically, for my clients, you know, and then you start
Speaker:to stumble around in the dark.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:So that you have that same ease to go in and talk to them about, it's $25,000.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. Well, why is it so much?
Speaker:That's what I charge.
Speaker:It's funny cause I think this conversation about getting asked
Speaker:to do things for free is pervasive.
Speaker:But I was at, at a conference recently and somebody framed it this way,
Speaker:like, don't get upset if somebody says, will you do it for free?
Speaker:Because you can't charge if you can't give it away for free.
Speaker:So when people start asking you if they'll do it for free, you know you
Speaker:can charge cuz you people want it.
Speaker:So you can't charge if you can't give it away.
Speaker:. So be afraid if people don't want it for free.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:I think that, you know, there, there are certain things like I, I
Speaker:did a, a great talk for United Way.
Speaker:And United Way is a nonprofit with a phenomenal message.
Speaker:And I charged and I said, because when you hire me, I'm going to make sure this is
Speaker:the biggest fundraiser you've ever had.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:, because I put this kind of energy and effort into the talk, and it was the
Speaker:biggest fundraiser for this particular luncheon that they have ever had.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. So my fee paid for itself because I helped them to make more money.
Speaker:But you have to be also clear to be able to manage.
Speaker:Objections because people always have objections because yeah, that's
Speaker:what the whole world is raised on.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:, we are raised on looking for deals and bargains and bonuses and rebates.
Speaker:I mean, it's at a point now that you know everything is overpriced
Speaker:so that they can discount it later.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. And so the problem with that is if you constantly looking for a deal, How can
Speaker:you say, I'm not willing to pay that, but now I want my clients to pay that.
Speaker:So that's a mindset mismatch.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:If I am going to ask full price, I need to be willing to pay full price myself.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:So if I wanna launch a $15,000, $20,000 mastermind, I'm gonna need
Speaker:to be able to put that money down for somebody else's Mastermind.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:Otherwise it can't work.
Speaker:Yes, I believe in that.
Speaker:I work with a number of sub-consultants who help me run my business and
Speaker:whenever I get a proposal from them, if I cannot afford it, I
Speaker:never ask them to change their price because I don't believe in that.
Speaker:Because I don't like when people ask me to change my price.
Speaker:So even if I think it's too high, if I think it's too high, but I
Speaker:can afford it, I still pay for it.
Speaker:I never say, Can you sharpen your pencil?
Speaker:Can you reduce this?
Speaker:Because I don't want somebody doing it to me.
Speaker:What I failed to mention in your intro, and I should have, is that
Speaker:you are the author of the number one internationally award-winning Amazon
Speaker:bestseller, Happy Woman, Happy World, How to Go From Overwhelmed to Awesome and.
Speaker:What is that?
Speaker:Because I think everybody who's listening to this podcast is like, Yes, overwhelmed.
Speaker:Yes.
Speaker:Still wanna be awesome.
Speaker:So is there one tool we can give to our listeners right now that
Speaker:can put them on that path besides quote by the book and read it?
Speaker:No, a hundred percent.
Speaker:So the, the core concept I developed and why I wrote the
Speaker:book is that there was a moment.
Speaker:My daughter was in bed and she was coughing and she was sleeping,
Speaker:and she was coughing and coughing and coughing, and I've voice in my
Speaker:head, said, Take her in the bedroom.
Speaker:You know, watch over her.
Speaker:And then she stopped breathing and I ripped her out of the bed, threw her
Speaker:over the shoulder, hopped around the living room, and tried to wake her up.
Speaker:Took her to the emergency room, she had asthma.
Speaker:With an almost fatal asthma attack.
Speaker:And so I spent the next couple years to research everything about asthma
Speaker:and, and how do you, and what do you, And then one day at age seven
Speaker:or eight, she just outgrew it.
Speaker:Hmm.
Speaker:So I'm like, Wait a minute, what?
Speaker:So I'm, I'm going through this agony of this rhythm in my life
Speaker:where I am just obsessed with this.
Speaker:And then it just ends and then something else.
Speaker:Right?
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:. And then you're done with that.
Speaker:And then something else comes.
Speaker:So I started to really take a look at how life really progresses, and I
Speaker:realized that there's a very specific rhythm, usually three to four years,
Speaker:where something takes on a main focus.
Speaker:So if you have a, a new baby, now you're a mother.
Speaker:That's your main focus for the next three to four years.
Speaker:It just is, right?
Speaker:Don't, don't try to do anything else.
Speaker:And then I looked at women and I saw that women are trying.
Speaker:Do all these things all at the same time, so they have a new baby.
Speaker:Then they're trying to advance their career at the same time while
Speaker:they try to work out like crazy.
Speaker:Do home cooked organic meals have their house look like Martha Stewart have the
Speaker:hottest sexist relationship on the planet.
Speaker:And, and, and, and you know, for those who can see, Julie's like cracking up here
Speaker:on the video . So you are guilty of this because you think you are super human.
Speaker:And so then we look at our girlfriends or our friends and we see.
Speaker:Mary and Mary is a great cook, so if she does it, I should be able to do it.
Speaker:And then we look at at Diana, and Diana got the smoking hot body.
Speaker:Well, if she does it, I should do it.
Speaker:So we now assemble our ideal version of ourselves.
Speaker:Out of the 10 best qualities of our 10 best friends, it's, I mean, hello.
Speaker:It's just not possible, right?
Speaker:So I developed this concept called E Rhythm, my own rhythm.
Speaker:Where I help in this book, I take you step by step through it so you can figure out
Speaker:exactly what your algorithm is, which one you are in right now, how to initiate the
Speaker:one that you want to be in, and set a main focus so that you really make the thing
Speaker:that's the main thing in this rhythm.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:and keep it the main thing.
Speaker:And then when another rhythm comes, then that thing becomes the main thing.
Speaker:So that's the main premise of the book.
Speaker:Oh, I can't believe we're running out of time.
Speaker:Um, , in conclusion, if you had one message, just one message that you
Speaker:would want every listener to hear.
Speaker:What would that be?
Speaker:Fail faster.
Speaker:Don't be afraid of failure.
Speaker:I always think about failure like as this nice person with a big stop
Speaker:sign in a cul-de-sac, just saying, This is not a good way to go.
Speaker:. You would never drive into that cul-de-sac after somebody told you not to go there.
Speaker:Throw yourself on the ground, throw a temper tantrum and cry.
Speaker:A bit of tears that you ended up in a cul-de-sac.
Speaker:You would simply get back in your car, turn around, you'd say, Thank you.
Speaker:Mm-hmm.
Speaker:, and you'd find another way.
Speaker:And so failure in life is nothing other than that, is just somebody
Speaker:with a stop sign that looks at you says, This is not a good way to go.
Speaker:Find a different way.
Speaker:Don't be upset about it.
Speaker:Say thank you, and just find another way, . That's, I've never thought
Speaker:about it as like a, with that visual.
Speaker:I think that visual is great cuz people look at failure and they're
Speaker:like, Why does this keep happening?
Speaker:Maybe you just, Why is this happening to me?
Speaker:Why do I have such a hard life?
Speaker:Why, Why, why, why, why?
Speaker:It's a cul-de-sac.
Speaker:That's it.
Speaker:Yeah.
Speaker:There's no reason you are going the wrong way.
Speaker:You need to turn around and go somewhere else.
Speaker:Or you can spend time in the cul-de-sac finding a road out and there really is
Speaker:only the same road that you came in.
Speaker:You need to find another way.
Speaker:If now I have the giggles, sorry, . If the listeners wanna learn more
Speaker:about you and all of your different offerings and your podcast,
Speaker:where's the best place to find you?
Speaker:So I would, uh, send them to go, obviously to the website@beatagillette.com,

Speaker:today, because it is a labor of love.
Speaker:Yes, Amen.
Speaker:Thank you so much.
Speaker:You're welcome.
Speaker:Julie.
Speaker:Here's a cup of coffee that'll be $25,000.
Speaker:That was my most favorite line of the entire interview.
Speaker:I love that Shay said that you need to start practicing saying it so that
Speaker:when you are asking for money, whether it be in the form of your salary,
Speaker:a speaking fee, your mastermind C, you say it in a same natural tone
Speaker:as all of the other things you say.
Speaker:So often we literally curl up inside of ourselves when we need to state
Speaker:what our fees are or the salary that we want or the raise that we deserve.
Speaker:Practicing saying it over and over against.
Speaker:You are comfortable stating your words.
Speaker:Believe me.
Speaker:I know this is hard.
Speaker:We are a professional speaker.
Speaker:You are constantly having to state your fee for delivering your keynote.
Speaker:This is something that I need to.
Speaker:All of the time so that I know when I say it comes outta my mouth
Speaker:with the confidence behind it.
Speaker:All the other things she talked about, like systems and framework and processes.
Speaker:Yes, all amazing and all needed, but what good are they if you aren't getting
Speaker:paid what you are worth, if you are working too hard for too little money.
Speaker:Which brings me to the aply named drink of the week, which is the money maker,
Speaker:which is what all of you will be pretty.
Speaker:If you aren't already, here's what you're gonna need.
Speaker:One fourth ounce of pair flavored vodka, one half ounce of midor,
Speaker:a juice of a half of a lemon.
Speaker:You're gonna combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, shake,
Speaker:shake, shake, then strain into a chilled short glass and garnish
Speaker:with a lime twist and a lemon wedge.
Speaker:So listen, if you happen to be in the St.
Speaker:Louis area, is it St.
Speaker:Louis or St.
Speaker:Louis?
Speaker:Well, if you happen to be in St.
