Julie:

July 3rd to August 11th or the official dog days of summer.

Julie:

And a period of time in which the sun occupies the same

Julie:

region of the sky as serious.

Julie:

The brightest star visible from any part of earth.

Julie:

Sirius also known as the dog star.

Julie:

It was part of the constellation canis major, the greater dog, which is where

Julie:

the term dog days of summer comes from.

Julie:

And you thought it was due to the heat.

Julie:

Welcome to episode 1 54 of this shit works, a podcast dedicated to all

Julie:

things, networking, relationship building and business development.

Julie:

I'm your host, Julie Brown speaker, author and networking coach and

Julie:

on today's this shit works short.

Julie:

I am discussing how to find work-life balance, not just during the dog

Julie:

days of summer, but all summer long.

Julie:

Every summer, I vow to take more time off during the summer to relax and

Julie:

enjoy the 12 short weeks of summer that we get here in the Northeast.

Julie:

And every year I seem to fail miserably at it, but not this year.

Julie:

This is my summer of slowing down.

Julie:

Well sort of actually, it's more like my August of slowing down really.

Julie:

As I'm traveling most of July.

Julie:

Which is not ideal, and frankly is going to exhaust me, which is one

Julie:

of the reasons why I'm producing.

Julie:

These shorter episodes for the month of July.

Julie:

My actually may, it may go into August as well because come home, I

Julie:

guess it's officially slow the fuck down and enjoy the summertime for me.

Julie:

Not that I won't be working, I will be, but I'll be working a hundred

Julie:

percent from my vacation house, wearing shorts and a tank top all month long

Julie:

and taking my lunch breaks at the.

Julie:

Beach.

Julie:

What I will be doing is very similar to advice that I read in a recent

Julie:

entrepreneur magazine article titled seven surefire ways to find

Julie:

work-life balance this summer.

Julie:

And I'm going to share the tips with you.

Julie:

Um, now I'm also going to put a link to the entire article in the show

Julie:

notes so that you can read it in its entirety, where they expand upon each

Julie:

of these seven ways in greater detail.

Julie:

But for now, here they are.

Julie:

One work outside.

Julie:

Hop on free wifi somewhere and soak up a couple hours of sun while you work.

Julie:

Or if your wifi goes outside and you have an outdoor space

Julie:

at your home work outside.

Julie:

Two.

Julie:

Try a workation check into a hotel or resort so you can enjoy all the amenities

Julie:

of the pool spa, et cetera, while you work or after your work is done.

Julie:

I've done this while traveling before I've booked an extra JJ.

Julie:

So I could work from the hotel roof, deck pools, being a cocktail and returning

Julie:

emails before I fly home the next day.

Julie:

Three.

Julie:

Enjoy a fun read, put down the business books and pick up a beach, read a

Julie:

thriller, a romance novel who cares.

Julie:

Just take your mind out of business for a little while each day.

Julie:

For.

Julie:

Get creative, meaning spend time doing something that flexes your

Julie:

creative muscles, paint, dance sing, take a pottery class, do something

Julie:

that you enjoyed as doing as a kid.

Julie:

For me during the month of August, it's going to be getting up in the morning

Julie:

and going paddleboarding before the water is too busy with boats and whatnot.

Julie:

Five.

Julie:

Schedule your emails review and respond to emails at a specific time each

Julie:

day, don't constantly be checking and responding to emails, which is a

Julie:

hundred percent effecting your attention and ability to focus on the other

Julie:

shit that you should be working on.

Julie:

I really do like this tip.

Julie:

Six.

Julie:

DIY happy hour.

Julie:

It's not what you think.

Julie:

Although, making a cocktail for yourself can be, can be nice too.

Julie:

They mean a different kind of happy art, meaning schedule one

Julie:

hour for yourself after work, to do something you really like.

Julie:

Like go to yoga, check out a movie, meet up with a friend or

Julie:

walk something different than the typical cocktails at five.

Julie:

And seven.

Julie:

Unplug shut it all down.

Julie:

Find an hour or a day, if you can manage to just shut it all down and unplug

Julie:

everything electronic from your life, put that out of office on and really mean it.

Julie:

I remember a couple of years ago for 4th of July weekend, I put my phone

Julie:

in a drawer and I left it there.

Julie:

I never checked in on it.

Julie:

And you know what?

Julie:

It was fucking amazing.

Julie:

I was so less stressed.

Julie:

And, you know, somehow people still found me, like they popped over my house

Julie:

instead of texting me, which was awesome.

Julie:

Try it just for an hour or a half day put it in drawer and don't look at it

Julie:

and don't get notifications push to your watch and see how much more awesome you

Julie:

feel at the end of all of those times that you do it So That's it Seven tips
